Helicopter
leads Boomerang Tracking Inc. team to rare piece of equipment
Boomerang Tracking Inc. successfully
located a rare and extremely valuable piece of construction equipment
as part of a recent tracking operation in Ontario.
The Boomerang Tracking Team
was notified of the theft of a Caterpillar 416 from a construction site
and immediately set out in search of the machine. With the aid of a
helicopter to obtain a location more quickly, Boomerang trackers also
located a Bowinger Eagle that had been reported stolen to authorities
three months prior. The Bowinger, one of only two in Canada, with an
approximate value of $800,000, had been stolen from a construction company
in Brossard, Quebec, it was not equipped with a Boomerang System.
“The Boomerang®
tracking devices continue to demonstrate their added value in the fight
against vehicle theft. Not only are they effective in recovering stolen
assets equipped with the devices, but in many cases lead to the recovery
of other stolen vehicles simultaneously that are not equipped with a
Boomerang device.” stated Linda Farha, Vice President of Marketing
and Communications at Boomerang Tracking. “These incidentals have
led to many arrests as well as the dismantling of major crime rings
across Ontario and Quebec” concluded Ms. Farha.
To date, the Boomerang retrieve
and Boomerang Alert devices have recovered a value of over $93 million
in stolen assets including incidental recoveries.

Dog back with owners after SUV stolen
The Toronto Star
09/05/2007
Mike Roberts, a 57-year-old
Air Canada pilot, parked his 2006 Chevy Trailblazer outside an Oakville
grovery store at about 6:15 p.m. last night. He and his wife, Barbara,
a registered nurse, had moved to Oakville from Toronto only a day earlier
and were doing some shopping for their new house Store surveillance
cameras show him going into the Great Canadian Superstore on Oak Walk
Dr., in the Trafalgar Rd. and Dundas St. E. area, at 6:18 p.m.
The same cameras show a man
stealing his car just a few minutes later. The man is shown driving away
in Roberts' SUV at 6:34 p.m. Probably unknown to the thief, the family
dog — a 4-year-old golden retriever named Cian — was in
the back seat, likely sleeping.Roberts didn't care so much about finding
the SUV, but he and Barbara were distraught about the stolen dog."It
was heartbreaking. We don't have any kids, so the dog is our family,"
Roberts said today. His fear was that when the thief discovered the dog,
he or she would just get rid of it.But there's a happy ending.
Cian (pronounced Keean) was
found this afternoon 70 kilometres away in the village of Ohsweken,
near Brantford.Police found the SUV early today. It was in a soybean
field but there was no dog in sight.Roberts suspects the car was going
to be stripped down for its parts.Roberts said the SUV's Boomerang tracking
device enabled police to find the car and determine that it had been
driven through Ancaster and Waterloo before winding up in the field.
Roberts and his wife went
to Ohsweken this morning to help police try to find the dog. Barbara
missed a memorial service for her brother, a horse trainer at Woodbine
Racetrack, who recently died of cancer.Luckily, police got a tip that
someone had seen a dog at a house and the animal was recovered —
hungry but otherwise in fine shape.
"The dog hasn't stopped
eating since I got it home," Roberts said. "He looks pretty
healthy, except tired."There have been no arrests. Halton police,
however, are thrilled to have reunited the dog with the Oakville couple."It
came to a very successful and happy ending," Sgt. Peter Payne said.
"The family was just ecstatic.

2008’s Top
Stolen Vehicle Recovery Stories Reported by Boomerang Tracking
Professional Thieves Continue To Drive Theft Problem And Are Using New
Ways To Steal Vehicles
Boomerang Tracking,
Canada’s leading provider of tracking and recovery systems for
stolen mobile assets, is pleased to announce its most impressive 2008
recovery stories of vehicles recovered with a Boomerang tracking device.
These stories not only indicate that vehicle theft remains an ongoing
societal problem, but also highlight the important role that Boomerang
Tracking plays in aiding law enforcement to apprehend professional thieves
and dismantle organized auto theft crime rings.
"After reading
our 2008 success stories, you’ll notice that there are several
new trends in the world of auto theft," said Scott Nilson, Boomerang
Tracking’s General Manager. "Thieves are stealing older model
year vehicles; do not hesitate to break-in houses to take the keys of
the vehicle; steal several vehicles from the same locations and even
from the parking lots of airports.”
Highlights of Boomerang
Tracking’s top stolen vehicle recoveries:
Third time is a
charm – A tracking team searching for a 2005 Ford F250, which
disappeared from a shopping mall parking lot while the customer was
shopping, located the vehicle parked in a nearby street. A seemingly
mundane recovery, aside from the fact that it was the third time his
vehicle was stolen and recovered in a 12 month period. That shows that
you can never have enough protection from persistent thieves, but that
Boomerang is always ready to get it back fast – no matter how
many times it may be stolen.
Home invaders behind
bars – A client called Boomerang Tracking to report the theft
of his 2006 Mini Cooper, valued at $30,000. The client, on vacation
in Florida, received a call from his neighbor telling him that thieves
had broken into his home. They stole the Mini Cooper in addition to
his 2004 GMC Yukon. A tracking team was quickly dispatched and located
the stolen vehicles which were parked on a street with the two suspects
inside. Local police were then contacted and arrived shortly thereafter
to recover the vehicles. Moreover, two arrests were made on the scene.
A great example of how thieves will stop at nothing to get your car
and how Boomerang will stop at nothing to get it back.
Vegas peace of mind
- A Boomerang client received a call from Security Central following
an Automatic Theft Notification from a Boomerang device installed in
his 2003 Hummer H2. The client left his car in the parking lot of the
airport hotel, and left on a getaway to Las Vegas. The client confirmed
the car's original location and the tracking team was immediately dispatched
and recovered the stolen Hummer in a nearby neighborhood. Thanks to
Boomerang, the client was able to get back to the casino tables with
a clear conscience and his car waiting for him upon his arrival.
Car rentals remain
on Canadian soil - The owner of a rental car company called Boomerang
Security Central to report the theft of several 2008 Toyota Camry's
and RAV4s after realizing that they were missing from their car lot.
Security Central verified the Boomerang signals and received initial
locations from around the country. Tracking teams were quickly dispatched
to locate the stolen vehicles. Several cars were found in containers
at the Ports of Montreal and Halifax. Some were found in a public storage
facility in Toronto and even a container trying to escape on a train
headed to Montreal. They were ready to be shipped to Algeria, Ghana
and Nigeria for resale but Boomerang made sure that they remained on
Canadian soil and that they were returned to their owner.
A theft ring dismantled
– A tracking team, which was searching for a 1999 Caterpillar
420D missing from the construction site of the client, had quickly located
the stolen machinery on the private property of a trucking company.
Local police arrived on the scene with a search warrant to recover the
equipment and found not only the stolen Caterpillar but also four intact
stolen vehicles: an Acura RDX, Toyota Camry, Cadillac Escalade, and
Chevrolet Silverado. In addition, one arrest was made on the scene.
The estimated total value of the recovery was over $180,000. Yet another
theft ring dismantled with the help of Boomerang!
A customer gets back his two machines valued at $600,000 - A customer
contacted the Boomerang Security Central to report the theft of its
two 2008 Volvo Series 900. Only one of the machines was equipped with
a Boomerang tracking device. The last time the graders were seen, they
were parked at the city’s public work yard. A tracking team received
a signal behind a series of garage doors in a nearby warehouse. It goes
without saying that the client was very happy to have his machinery
back and working on the site.
An RV valued at
$510,000 recovered - A client called Boomerang Tracking to report the
theft of his 2006 Essex 4510 RV equipped with a Boomerang Espion. The
last time the RV was seen by the owner, it was in a storage facility
in Mirabel, Quebec. A tracking team located the stolen RV without damage
in Shawinigan, Quebec.
Boomerang has a
mission to educate the public on ways to protect their vehicles against
theft and make them aware that every vehicle is a target. That is why
we have recently published an educational booklet - Keeping Track -
which is available as a free download on our website at www.boomerangtracking.com.

Boomerang Tracking Welcomes Tougher Time for Auto Crime
The problem should be top of mind with Canadian car owners
Boomerang Tracking
supports the Harper Government’s position and initiatives to help
stop auto theft in Canada. Auto theft is a social and economic problem
that costs Canadians money and peace of mind and its impact is sometimes
underestimated. Due to the high costs and frustrations associated with
auto theft, the issue should be top of mind with Canadian car owners
and the measures undertaken by the Federal Government is yet another
step in the right direction.
Boomerang Tracking
has spokespeople available to comment on the current situation and provide
expert analysis on auto theft. Moreover, they can offer advice on how
to further reduce the recurring problem of vehicle theft in Canada.
As of April 2009,
over 6,700 vehicles equipped with a Boomerang device have been recovered,
representing an overall value of over $330 million. Boomerang tracking
devices have not only led to the recovery of assets equipped with a
Boomerang, but have also contributed to the recovery of other stolen
vehicles, which did not have a unit installed. These incidental recoveries
accounted for an additional $43 million in value. Boomerang has enabled
police to break up numerous chop shops, dismantle entire car theft crime
rings and arrest hundreds of thieves.
